[TYPO3] after setting up ssl certificate cannot loginto BE

i had my host setup an ssl certificate for my site.

now i cannot log into the backend with any of the users that are setup. 
i was able to access the install tool, and create another admin user, 
but then i try and log in with that user and it does not work.  It just 
behaves as though i am not typing my user or pw correctly...

any ideas? this is bad!
