[TYPO3] Reusing menus

I feel I am missing something obvious, so pointers would be appreciated.

I have a (TemplaVoila) web site with side navigation (main menu). The  
client wants to repeat the menu as text links across the bottom. A  
pretty common request I would have thought. The CSS re-styling is  
easy - but I cannot find instructions on how to re-use the main menu  
object in it's entirety. I can find breadcrumbs tutorials, extra  
menus with different content, sub-menus ... but all I want to do is  
re-use the existing automatically generated main menu. I'm sure I  
must be missing something very obvious ...
