[TYPO3] E-mail not working?

Hi,

I have successfully setup a php send mail script before trying out typo3,
using the smtp config that is associated to my account. Nevertheless it
needs authentication in the script itself.

I just don't know how to config smtp for typo3, beside the test feature in
the install tool that doesn't ask for that kind of info.

Most likely reason is that your localhost does not run smtp service. 
There is nothing you can do there, you have to ask your provider about it.
