[TYPO3] How to mark external links and protected pages in menus with TS templates

I scanned through the testsite tutorial (getting started tutorial) but 
couldn't find anything about marking external links or protected pages 
in menus. It just talks about how to set up those kinds of pages in 
Typo3. I'll have a go at it again today and will also install the 
testsite to see if I can find anything on its TS templates.
