[TYPO3] Install tool does SELECT * on ALL tables?

Can someone confirm or reject this?

That the install tool, when using "COMPARE" in the Database Analyzer, will
do a "SELECT *" on any and all tables in the database you're installing to?
We're installing to a 15+ GB database, and doing COMPARE brings the server
to its knees until the PHP script execution time limit is reached. Using
SQL Spy to find out what's happening shows "SELECT *" on tables that do not
belong to TYPO3 while COMPARE is running.

Is this accurate? And if so, this cannot possibly be intended behavior?
