[TYPO3] page tree empty after upgrading

Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade my site from 3.8.1 to 4.0.

After making the backup, I unpacked the tarball, set the correct 
links and logged in into BE.  The install tool wanted to update 
something, but at the end, he told me that everything succeeded.

But now there are no pages in the page tree.  A DB-check tells me, 
that there are a lot of pages, but they are not listed in the tree.

What have I missed?
