[TYPO3] pi_wrapInBaseClass and <span>..

Hi,

AFAIK all content returned from plugins should be returned through
pi_wrapInBaseClass function.
But what about situations when one needs another tag than <div>, f.i.
<span>?
One could, of course, make the div an inline element, but that's not the
point.
Shouldn't be considered to add a parameter to pi_wrapInBaseClass where on
specyfies what wrapper should the function use with <div> as default?
And wouldn't it be better if instead of class='..' T3 was using id='..'?
It's just a thought.. just a thought..
