[TYPO3] High load issues

Hi there

I am aware that typo3 uses some serious server resources.

But, is this only when someone is in the back end, clearing page cache, or
fe cache?

Does setting pages to cache significantly improve performance?

What do i need to do to increase performance?

What do people recommend for a server spec?
