[TYPO3] formatting text/w image with css stylesheet

somehow there is no whole div/span around the whole content element,
can that somehow be set?

problem: if i float the text around the image and the image is higher
that the text then the next content element /entry is floated too
which is quite ugly. the clear: both command is not understood by
internet explorer.
anyway i think it would make sense anyway to wrap a div around each
element, but how?
