[TYPO3] tt_news - latest news in SINGLE view

I have a page with both a tt_news SINGLE view and a tt_news LATEST view. The 
first time I view this page, the LATEST view is giving a list of the latest 
news, but the SINGLE view gives the text "no news_id given" because there is 
not yet chosen a news item.

Does anyone has a typoscript code for cheching if a news item is chosen in 
SINGLE view and if not, get hold of the latest news item ? Or is it other 
ways to make SINGLE view default to the latest news item, if no news item is 
chosen ?
