Caught me too - the way it works has changed.

1. Memory sounds good, recommend in your php.ini also increase
max_execution_time to 120. I left max_input_time at 90, others
increased it.

2. in the extension manager - import extensions, do a "Retrieve-
Update". Do not expect any extensions to display like the previous
version, but the message SHOULD change to say something like "The
extensions list has been updated and now contains 1587 extension
entries." (ok I had checked the "show unreviewed extensions" too).

Then try a "Look up" of a known reviewed extension (one that HAS to
be in the list). If it displays you're working. To get a list of all
"1587" simply leave the "List or look up extensions" input box blank
and do a "Look up" (then go and make a cup of coffee ...).

Good luck,
