[TYPO3] Photo galleries, temporary files & resized images...

Hi there,

i want to build a new gallery extension very soon - the current ones 
have some drawbacks unfortunatly.

So my question: Resizing images with Typo3 is a breeze - i just put in 
the width and height et voila - i get an image with the right size which 
is located
in the temp folder. So i wonder if its possible to tell this mechanism 
where to put the temp files and how to name them (based on naming 
conditions like thumb_imagename or something like this) - this way i 
could create galleries on the fly without too much hassle.

Any ideas highly appreciated!
