[TYPO3] MySQL 4.1 character set

Hi folks,

is any solution about how to deal with character set and collations in 
Typo3 3.8.1 somewhere? I'm struggling with it and I can't make it work.

I.E.: I write to a template some special chars and after save I get: 
102: These fields are not properly updated in database: (constants) 
Probably value mismatch with fieldtype.
