Changing names in BE is a little bit unconfortable.
You should create extra language files for you own language labels
and modify locallang.php (if you edit core language files you loose 
changes, when you update typo).

I have forgotten the correct syntax - this issue was once in this list.

For FE plugins you can use TypoScript but not for BE plugins.
