SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization

Search engine are not very fond of the ?id=XXX parameters
Especially not the PHPSESSID in the URL.

By using an URL like: http://www.domain.com/page1/subpage1/subsubpage1 
search engine tend to give these kind of URL's a higher ranking and 
these URL's will generally be indexed better than 
?id=XXX&anothervariable=YYY URL's
