[TYPO3] tt_news: a protected news category and an unprotected news category on the same installation?

Dear friends,

A customer is asking a very interesting question. We are 
trying to implement a small community solution based on 
typo3 (3.8.1), where there are members (who can access all 
services after login) and non member (who can access only 
certain services). 

The question is:

Using tt_news is it possible to create a news category where 
single news item pages are only accessible to member of the 
community (after login) whilst news in another category are 
accessible to everybody (within the same installation)?
