[TYPO3] Developing own extensions

Hi everybody,

I'm playing a little bit with developing own extensions but still
have some problems in understanding the way T3 works.

I'd like to change the way an image link is created. At the moment,
it's a long link, including the path of the imagefile. As I'm
using DAM incl. dam_ttcontent, it would be sufficient to add only
the ID of the content-element and of the image.

The idea behind is, that with those two IDs, I would be able to
display not only the image itself, but also a thumbnail of the
previous and the next image, if the content element contains more
than one image.

My problem is, that I don't see where I can get the ID of the
content element. I would like to have some kind of a stack trace
to see, which functions are called in order to generate the
HTML-output for the content. But I don't really understand the way
PHP and TypoScript work together here.

Does anybody have some hint?

Thanks and best regards,

    Heiner
