[TYPO3] File list->modify file truncates file

hi,

when I select the file list module, right-click on a file, select edit,
make changes and hit save, typo3 reloads the "editor" (textarea), but it's
always empty. The files are chmoded to 777.

There is no error message at all. Can I enable a debug log or anything
similar?
