[TYPO3] add certain pages to archive automaticly

Hi, i have an huge list of pages within a certain category (projects). Now i 
just list these projects (each a seperate page) within my navigation. 
However i want to make a distinction between running projects and past 
projects. So idea is to have only running projects to be displayed in 
navigation while all past projects should be placed into an archive. What is 
an easy way of doing this. Ideally would be a radiobutton in BE, that states 
running or past project. However i little knowledge of PHP, or TypoScript. 
ANy pointers on how to procede with this
