[TYPO3] Extending t3lib_BEfunc

I've read from the core api documentation that you can not extend the
t3lib_BEfunc class because it's not instantiated.
Does anyone know of another way to extend a funtion in the class? I need to
rewrite/extend the lockRecords function.
