[TYPO3] Typo3 adds _1.jpg, _2.jpg etc. when choosing same image for background

I afraid it cannot be found due to folder name, not file name. Adding 
_<number> is how typo3 works when it finds image with the same name in 
that folder.

You may try to use DAM.
