Bug 2615 at bugs.typo3.org has a patch for the problem. It will become
part of 4.1 but can be applied to 4.0.3 if needed.

1. Install the diff
2. Run the install tool to update database
3. Update ter_update_check to latest version
4. Live happily ever after....
