[TYPO3] multiple html templates

Hi all,

I am trying to set up a multiclient web site using HTML templates. Is it
possible to have several extension templates as part of a single main
template which use different HTML template files? Such that I could say

[criteria for client 1]
page < temp.page_created_using_template1

[criteria for client 2]
page < temp.page_created_using_template2

...

I tried (using 3.8.1) but did not succeed.
