[TYPO3] htmlarea a tags output as link tags

Hi all,

I am having an interesting problem with some links in htmlarea. When I put
a link in such as http://www.playrugbyleague.com.au/littleleague the final
output is as follows:

<link http:wwwplayrugbyleaguecomaulittleleague="" _blank=""
 external-link-new-window="" opensexternallinkinnewwindow=""
 />http://www.playrugbyleague.com.au/littleleague</link>

However, if I view the source within htmlarea it looks like this:

<a href="http://www.playrugbyleague.com.au/littleleague" target="_blank"
class="external-link-new-window" title="Opens external link in new
window">http://www.playrugbyleague.com.au/littleleague</a>

This does not seem to happen on all links, only some. I can not work out
what the pattern is. I am using Typo3 4.0 with htmlArea 1.3.7.

Any help will be much appreciated.
