[TYPO3] mixing cElements from different tables

I am trying to write an extension which allows me to integrate records from
a different db table (eventually in a different data base) with "normal"
content elements from tt_content.
With kickstarter I got the basic elements for accessing a new table
(user_something). I can create records in this table. I have written a
static/setup.txt which allows me to access the records and render them on a
page.
Now I want to intgrate them with tt_content based ones on one page. My idea
was to put (all) records of the new table into a SysFolder (there are not so
many) and use "Insert Records" on the target page. But nothing is rendered,
if I do so. I can see that the correct record is included (I have the
pen-symbol and clicking on it reveals the correct record), but I do not see
how to get it rendered.

Can someone help?
