[Typo3] Verifying Google Sitemaps

Tried adding " 
$TYPO3_CONF_VARS["FE"]['pageNotFound_handling_statheader'] = 'HTTP/1.0
 > 404 Not Found';" in localconf.php and I still get the front page 
instead of an error.

 > Or switch off typo handling errors in the first place

How do I do that?
