The reason I am posting this is because I am looking for suggestions on
how to best make this file available to all. At present the file is 70mb
in size and takes a lot of manual labor with conversion, linking and HTML
coding. This is unlike my other projects which can be handled with some
regexs and Perl scripting. This is why it is a pay download at present.
But since I am busy with other projects I cannot devote the amount of
time it takes to maintain the file without asking to be paid for my
time. So should I:
1.Try and join the Typo3 docs team, donate the CHM to typo3 and maintain
it as best I can in my free time. This would allow others to also help
out. It would be a trade off. I would not have to worry about bandwidth
and availability and getting credit for the work would satisfy my
commercial needs for advertising.
2.Put it up as a fundable.org or donorge.org project and only update it
when funds reach a certain level. (This is hard to maintain because of
having to figure to costs of bandwith and other non-fixed costs along
with labor)
3.Continue to maintain this as a commercial download and charge
accordingly.( Again this is hard to maintain because of having to figure
to costs of bandwith and other non-fixed costs like labor.).
I have been getting emails about this being unfair to those that can't
afford the costs. The complaint being the reason they need a CHM is
because of the cost of being online. One very angry person said that I
was influencing the popularity of Typo3 with undue capitalism. I have
been emailing copies to people, but now even this is starting to
encrouch on my time.
So I am open to suggestions on this. But please do not inundate me with
emails about getting the file until this is resolved. At 70mb my email
client is constantly runnning at times.
