[Typo3] No linebreaks when fetching data with $this->cObj->data[...] ?

Hi,

I created a new content type and want to fetch the data from the DB with 
the $this->cObj->data[...] command.
The problem is that all linebreaks are gone.
When editing the the content, linebreaks are there.

I tried to define different types of textfields in the extension 
kickstarter (string, string with no wrapping, RTE, …) but nothing worked.

Can anyone help with this,
