[Typo3] RTE HTML instead of TEXT

Is it possible to have the output from the rte saved directly into the 
database without being converted to text (having certain things stripped 
out and <p> replaced with chr(10)) and then being converted back again 
when the page is generated? The problem is that this process often seems 
to produce strange results, and the htmlArea plugin generates good html, 
but it can't be shown when the type is changed to HTML.
