This might be a good place to mention that the list rules [1] ask that we

'...remove all unwanted junk from your reply before you hit "send"
(e.g. quoted text that is not necessary, redundant footers
etc.)...some posts are huge because people don't bother with this...it
just makes them unreadable'

The long signature that prompted the comment in this thread was not
the only irrelevant and unduly long one that I've seen on the list
today (somebody had about a 25 line legal disclaimer in English and
Dutch...)
