[Typo3] Modern Template Building, Part 1

I installed the dummy package that goes with Modern Template Building, Part 
1.  Everything seemed to install fine, but when I try to login to the 
backend, I get the following error message: ERROR: 
"/avatar/httpd/html/dummy-3.8.0/typo3temp/llxml/" is not a directory!

The frontend comes up fine.  I tried re-installing it 3 times and it always 
comes up the same.

Has anyone had this problem before?  Any suggestions would be greatly 
appreciated.
