Dear all,

I have been thinking about this issue mailing lists Vs forums for two
years as I have worked on my own open source project, a fork of
osCommerce for services businesses. I became detirmined to not follow
the osCommerce forums style and to use mailing lists instead.

Why?

Well to my understanding, a lot of the time, forums don't seem focussed
and get quite confusing for the users. Also, I don't have the time to
modertate them personally.

HP ITRC

My long term solution is to create a typo3 replicant of the wonderful
itrc.hp.com forums that I and thousands of others have been using for
many years. They are organised as a meritocracy. People ask questions
and can assign votes to the the right answers. That way, you can find
useful answers really quickly. They are a treasure trove of well thought
out questions and stunningly elegant answers for the most part. You
really should consider this type of system for typo3, I think. For most
open source projects, the level of community involvement would not be
highly skilled enough but for typo3 it would be like the HP ITRC, full
of the best brains in their specialisation.

So that is, as we say in Australia, my two bob.
