[Typo3] Auto login to BE

I am sure there is a way of doing this but I can't seem to make it
work. I maintain a number of Typo3 websites, all v3.8 now, and would
like to be able to store the usernames & passwords in the url of a
shortcut.

I am sure this used to work in the format:
http://www.mysite.com/typo3/index.php?u=username&p=password 

However I cannot got this to work. Is there a way of getting this to
work?
