[Typo3] multimedia problem

I am using typo3 3.7.0 and am having a problem
inserting mp4 files - the html content type will not
allow me to use embed tags and the filemanager does
not allow handling of mp4 files.

I have also discovered that quicktime .mov files are
not handled despite being recognised by typo3

Does anyone have a solution, or an idea of the best
way to try to resolve this?
