[Typo3] update from 3.7.0 to 3.7.1 or 3.8.0 (help)

Thank you for trying to clear up the matters:
The missing images are only (as far as I can see) images that used to be in 
the page content

I checked the install tool for 3.7.0 and it was fine (except for the soft 
drop shadow in the GDlib tests), but as soon as I upgraded (removed the 
3.7.0 install and installed a 3.8.0 package) the probelm occured and the 
GDlib test did not function properly (only one line of text amongst other 
things).

Which directories should have execute and write rights?

I can easily change those things
