[Typo3] typo3temp/pics - unable to remove files

Dear list,

Each call of a site with images will create new files in typo3temp/pics.
In the meantime there are some megs of 'unneccessary' files. How can I
remove them? Via ftp it is not possible because of right/ownership. And
the button 'clear cache files' will only remove files directly in
typo3temp.

Please help me - I am running out of webspace!
