When I get you right, you want to split a long article into several 
pages and have a navigation added to jump between the pages in the 
article. Is this what you want?
The news extension recently added this behaviour in a quite intelligent 
way (you can manually enter a break-point or specify the number of words 
after it is split automatically, taking the remaining words of a 
paragraph into account and placing the break-point accordingly). This 
only works within a single record, so I don't know if this would be 
sufficient for you.
