[Typo3] Testing Typo3 on an existing site

I have installed Typo3 on my existing site, but if I enable Typo3's
index.php it will take precedence over the existing index.html.
I would rather have Typo3 co-exist with the old (static html) site.

So, can I rename index.php or how do I do this?
