[Typo3] change layout BROWSETABLE of the extension Document Directorys

How do i adjust the layout of the ###BROWSETABLE### of the extension 
Document Directorys. At default each item is stored in a single cell of one 
bigger table.This because quite hard to get an good overview when using more 
items to display (see 
http://typo3.org/documentation/document-library/danp_documentdirs/Screenshots-32/ 
)

now what i want to make is to store more them one value into one cell, thus 
getting someting like this: 
http://www.corning.com/opticalfiber/technical_library/technical_papers/conference_papers/index.aspx

anybody has done something simulair for this extension and if so could you 
tell me how?
