[Typo3] one-tree multilanguge site

I try to follow this guide:
http://typo3.org/documentation/tips-tricks/multi-language-sites-in-typo3/
 and use it on my quickstart based site.

But my problem is that I can make an additional language and
additional page versions but it (no navigation) doesn't show on the
real site and how do I set the default language if I want it to be
something else?
