[Typo3] removing entries from a table not working using the delete button

hello,
i'm new to typo3. 
i'm having trouble removing entries from a table in the database using
the delete button in the list view.

i have a Sysfolder that contains content entries for a  plugin i made. 
i have modified the code in the ext/myplugin/pi/class_myplugin.php to
suit my needs. should that be the first place to start looking?

any pointers would be a great help
