[Typo3] Switching from subdomain to domain

At the moment i'm using another CMS on my server.
I'm designing the typo3 version of my site. All content will be 
RE-inserted manually in Typo3 so it will not be a short time process. I 
think me and my editors will need at least 3/4 weeks.
So while the site continue running on the other cms at www.mydomain.com 
i would have a full working typo3 version of my site in a subdomain such 
us  typo3.mydomain.com so me and my editor can start the manually 
migration without stop the site.
When the migration is completed, there's a way to switch to typo3 
version, and point www.mydomain.com to typo3 version, without broking 
the site ?
I know that typo3 seems to use relative internal link method (usually 
internal link point to page ID and not to full path url ).

What should be the correct procedure to achieve what i explained above ? 
( with my bad bad english, i know ;(  )
