[Typo3] TYPO3 host permissions

Hello there,

today I tried to delete a file from an extension directory, but was denied  
permission. Support said it's owned by nobody/nobody , the default apache  
user.
Now, I'd like to be able to delete and edit files by myself, so my  
question is this:
Does TYPO3 automatically chown files and dirs it creates as nobody, and is  
there a way to change it somehow?
I know very little about unix permissions, so thank you for your help!
