I think as long as those "Oh thank you three times" mails don't take overhand
I think it is in the opinion of the writer how he replies to somebody who helped.

In some cases when there is nothing more to say it would propably be better to
reply private.

When there are more postings and you find one especially helpful you should write
this to the list that this helped you most or was the solution to your problem ..
so others who have the same problem and were searching the archives would know
what seems to help in those cases.
