[Typo3] Losing $_GET vars

how can you lose a $_GET var? it's in the URL, right? passed from a link...
if u want to pass it on to other pages from 4ex a typo3 menu u have to add
---8<-----
config.linkVars= page,age_cat
---8<-----
to your setup
the getvars will then be added to all typolinks
