[TYPO3] FE User Registration URLs

I have installed and configured the sr_feuser_register extension and
now I am trying to reduce the length of the URLs that it produces wien
people try to register.

If I add the line config.notification_email_urlmode = 76 to my TS
setup file this works and produces URLs of the type
http://www.mydomain.org/?RDCT=269119d21d805123d527 But when I try to
use this URL to confirm registration it fails and returns me to the
home page of the website.

Versions:
Typo3 v 3.8.1
sr_feuser_register v 2.2.1
RealURL v 0.3.0
