[Typo3] Front-end Editing of tt_news

Hi everyone,
I am setting up front-end editing for my site so users can submit news 
and blob posts(tt_news and timtab)
What I would like to be able to do is hide form fileds like 
Author(news_auth_rel) and automatically populate that with the uid of 
the user submitting the post.

Is there anyway yo do this? I was testing ext for front end editing but 
I think the BE interface is much cleaner for things like selecting 
categories and DAM Elements.
