[Typo3] RealURLs and "." (full-stop)

Hi,

I'm trying to get typo3 to allow me to use full-stops in URLs.  I am
using RealURLs to get nicer URLs, but the period is a no-go.  BY hacking
typo3/sysext/cms/ext_tables.php (is there a better way?) I managed to
have the Alias field accept caps as well as full-stops, but subsequent
use of the URL (be it with simulateStaticDocuments, by using "id=alias",
or by RealURLs) fails; the system redirects to the root of the tree.

Any suggestions?
