[Typo3] directmail times out

Hi list

I am trying to send a Quickmail to my appr. 1200 recipients.
However the script times out and returns a page not found page.
When I check my maillog the message has been send to appr. 650 recipients.

Do I need to set up max_execution_time in PHP (presently at 300seconds which I think is a default value), is this a bug or does anybody have the solution to this problem?
