[Typo3] Wot, no thumbnails?

Hi all

Apologies if this is a FAQ, as I suspect it is, but I've had a 15-minute search through the Windows Installer FAQ and HOWTO and couldn't find a match for the imageMagick problem I'm running into on installation.

I've spent the whole of today testing the Typo3 quickstart Windows installation on the following config:

Windows 2000 Professional and XP Professional (I tested on two machines)
Apache
Mozilla 1.7, IE6

I downloaded the WAMP-quickstart-3.6.0RC1.exe installer and ran it, to save me manually installing Apache, PHP and MySQL. I accepted all the default settings. It installed everything fine into c:\typo3, and the backend, frontend, and installer work fine. I followed the quickstart.pdf tutorial (and very well-written it is too) and it mostly went as planned, but when it came to the adding images part I noticed that Typo3 wasn't generating thumbnails. The note in the tutorial says:

"If you don't see a nice little thumbnail of the image here TYPO3 is probably not configured correctly for using ImageMagick."

So I went into the Install Tool to step 3, Image Processing, and ran the reading image formats test. This was ok for the bitmapped formats, but gave errors for PDF and AI. The error info says:

"Refer to the 'Basic Configuration' section for more information and debugging of your settings."

So I did that, and as far as I can see all the config info is ok. ImageMagick is installed ok in C:\Typo3\ImageMagick\, and there are green ticks all the way down the page. This problem occurs on both my work and home machines, so I don't think it's a local problem. Could anyone suggest a reason why typo3 isn't picking up IM, and suggest a fix?

I'm evaluating typo3 as an Image Management System (see my maiden message on 11th August) and, from the documentation and specs, it looks to be ideal, *if* I can get the image handling features working ok.

Many thanks in anticipation for any responses, for what must surely be a common problem.

Cheers

Fred

PS: What's the difference between WAMP-quickstart-3.6.0RC1.exe and WAMP-quickstart-3.6.0RC1-2.exe, other than the default installation directory? Not that it matters, I'm just curious.
